FADE IN: INT. CAFE - DAY Jack is wiping down the counter, sweating in the hot and muggy cafe. Suddenly, the door opens and in walks Erika wearing sandals. JACK: Hey, Erika! How are you? ERIKA: Hey, Jack. I'm doing well. How about you? JACK: It's been crazy busy, but I'm hanging in there. ERIKA: Well, I'm here to break up your day a little bit. JACK: (laughs) What do you have in mind? ERIKA: Remember when I told you about my boss, Stella, and how she's been into hypnotism lately? JACK: Yeah, I remember. What about it? ERIKA: Well, I convinced her to come down here and give you a little show. JACK: What? Erika, I don't know if I'm comfortable with that. ERIKA: Oh come on, it'll be fun! And you could use a little break from all this work. Before Jack can respond, Stella walks in wearing a long flowing dress. STELLA: Hello Jack, it's a pleasure to finally meet you. JACK: Nice to meet you too, Stella. STELLA: I've been practicing my hypnotism skills and Erika has told me all about you. Would you be interested in experiencing it for yourself? JACK: (skeptical) I don't know... ERIKA: Please, Jack? It's just for fun. JACK: (sighs) Okay, fine. Let's give it a go. Stella begins to swing a pocket watch in front of Jack's face, her voice soothing and hypnotic. Jack's eyes grow heavy and he sways slightly on his feet. STELLA: (laughs) Sleep, Jack. Sleep. Jack's eyes close and he begins to fall into a trance. STELLA: (smiling) Now, Jack. When you wake up, you will believe that you are a famous singer. You will serenade us with your talents and make us all swoon. Erika and Stella begin to giggle as they watch Jack fall deeper into his trance. JACK: (humming) La-la-la. ERIKA: (laughs) He's so cute. Suddenly, Jack starts to sing. It's terrible - off key and completely out of tune. But Erika and Stella can't help but laugh and clap along. STELLA: (clears throat) Alright, Jack. That's enough for now. Jack snaps out of his trance, confused and embarrassed. JACK: (embarrassed) What just happened? ERIKA: (laughs) You were singing, Jack. It was hilarious! STELLA: You were a fantastic singer, Jack. Perhaps you have a future in music. JACK: (rolling his eyes) Yeah, I don't think so. ERIKA: Thanks for playing along, Jack. This made my day. JACK: (smiling) No problem. I needed a little break from the monotony. STELLA: Well, perhaps we can come back another time and try some other fun hypnotic experiences. JACK: (skeptical) We'll see about that. FADE OUT.
