INT. JANE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT Jane, a 17-year-old girl with unruly red hair, sits cross-legged on her bed, engrossed in a book. Sam, her girlfriend of six months, twirls a lock of her dark hair nervously. SAM Hey, Jane... Can we talk? Jane looks up from her book, intrigued by Sam's serious tone. JANE Of course, babe. What's on your mind? Sam takes a deep breath, gathering her thoughts before speaking. SAM Well, earlier when we were at the mall, you kind of said something that hurt me. I don't think you meant it, but it still hurt. Jane furrows her eyebrows, concern flooding her face. JANE What did I say? I honestly don't remember anything offensive. Sam hesitates, fighting back tears as she relays her painful memory. SAM You pointed at that cute couple holding hands, and you said, "I can't imagine myself ever doing that." It made me feel like our relationship isn't good enough for you. Jane's eyes widen in realization, a mix of remorse and confusion on her face. JANE Oh my god, Sam, I am so sorry! That's not what I meant at all. I didn't mean to imply that our relationship isn't special. Sam wipes away a stray tear, searching for reassurance in Jane's eyes. SAM Then, what did you mean? Jane takes a deep breath, trying to explain herself more clearly. JANE When I said that, what I really meant was that I can't imagine myself being so openly affectionate in public. It's about my own comfort zone, not about how I feel about you. Sam stays silent for a moment, processing Jane's words. She reaches out and takes Jane's hand in her own, seeking comfort. SAM You could have phrased it differently, but I understand now. I guess I just overreacted... Jane squeezes Sam's hand gently, her voice filled with sincerity. JANE You had every right to be hurt, Sam. I should have considered how my words would make you feel. I promise to be more mindful and communicate better from now on. Sam smiles, her trust and love evident in her eyes. SAM I appreciate that, Jane. And I know we'll go through ups and downs, but as long as we're open and honest with each other, we can work through anything. They lean in and share a heartfelt kiss, their love for one another mending the hurt caused by Jane's unintentional words. FADE OUT.
