INT. MIAC BOARD ROOM - DAY A group of board members sit around a large table, including the PRESIDENT of the MIAC. PRESIDENT (to the group) Okay, let's get started. Today we're discussing disciplinary action against one of our member schools, St. Mary's. BOARD MEMBER 1 What did they do this time? PRESIDENT They failed to meet our minimum standards for athletic competitiveness and academic success. BOARD MEMBER 2 That's not surprising. They've been struggling in both areas for years. PRESIDENT I agree. But we can't just let them continue to drag down the conference as a whole. BOARD MEMBER 1 What are our options? PRESIDENT We have a few. We could impose probationary measures, such as requiring them to improve their facilities and increase recruiting efforts. Or we could simply remove them from the conference altogether. BOARD MEMBER 2 That seems a bit drastic. Do we really want to kick them out? PRESIDENT We have to consider what's best for the conference. If St. Mary's is unable to meet our standards, it's not fair to the other schools who are putting in the effort to be successful. BOARD MEMBER 1 I see your point. But what happens to St. Mary's if we do kick them out? PRESIDENT They'll have to find a new conference or try to go independent. It won't be easy, but it's ultimately their responsibility to meet our standards. BOARD MEMBER 2 I guess we don't really have a choice, then. PRESIDENT It's not an easy decision, but sometimes tough choices have to be made. I'll contact St. Mary's and inform them of our decision. CUT TO: EXT. ST. MARY'S ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT - DAY The coach and athletic director of St. Mary's are standing outside the building, looking dejected. COACH (to the athletic director) I can't believe they kicked us out. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR I know. It's a huge blow to our program. COACH What are we supposed to do now? ATHLETIC DIRECTOR We'll have to start looking for a new conference or go independent. But either way, it's going to be difficult. COACH I can't imagine not playing in the MIAC. It's been our home for so long. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR I know. But we'll figure it out. We'll find a way to be competitive and successful, even if it's not in this conference. FADE OUT.
