(A younger Vanessa is sitting with her sister Mindy, as Mindy explains parthenogenesis to her.) Mindy: "It's when we females can reproduce without a male. It's rare, but it can happen." Vanessa: "But how? How can we do that?" Mindy: "It's all in our genetic makeup. We have the ability to fertilize our own eggs and create offspring without the need for a mate." Vanessa: "Wow, that's amazing! Have you ever done it?" Mindy: "Yes, once. But it was a difficult and painful process. I'm not sure if I'll ever do it again." {END FLASHBACK} Vanessa: "And now, it looks like it's my turn. But it's been so much more painful and complicated than Mindy's experience. I don't know what went wrong." [player]: "Well, how can I help?" Vanessa: "Can you...can you summon a Healer? A cleric or a witch or something? I can feel my energy draining away and I don't think I have much time left." [player]: "Okay, okay...let me see what I can do." (I quickly ran up to the surface and consulted my Book of Summoning. I flipped through the pages until I found the section on healers. After a few minutes, I found what I was looking for - the page for a Wiccan Healer.) [player]: "Alright, let's give this a shot." (I slowly recited the incantations and drew the symbols in the air with my finger. Suddenly, there was a bright flash of light, and a young woman appeared - dressed in green, with a wreath of flowers in her hair and a satchel of herbs slung over her shoulder.) Wiccan Healer: "Greetings, summoner. I am Elenora, a Wiccan Healer. What seems to be the problem?" [player]: "There's a Cave Spider down in my basement who's giving birth - she's been waiting for a long time and it's starting to get really painful. Can you help her?" (Elenora nods and makes her way down to the basement, where Vanessa is still in agony.) Elenora: "Hello, my dear. My name is Elenora. I've come to help you." Vanessa: (weakly) "Thank you...thank you so much." (Elenora examines Vanessa and begins to chant softly, as she places her hands on Vanessa's swollen belly.) Elenora: "Hecate, goddess of childbirth and magic, please bless this mother and child. Let the birthing be swift and painless, and let the child be healthy and strong." (After a few moments, Vanessa's pained screams turn into soft moans of relief as the baby is finally born - a little spiderling with four glowing eyes in its purple fur.) Vanessa: (tearfully) "It's a girl...it's a beautiful little girl..." Elenora: "Congratulations, my dear. You're a mother now." Vanessa: "Thank you...thank you so much..." [player]: "Wow...that was amazing." Elenora: "It's all in a day's work for a Wiccan Healer." [player]: "I can't thank you enough for your help." Elenora: "It was my pleasure. May your home be blessed with health and happiness." (Elenora disappears in a soft glow of light, leaving Vanessa and her newborn daughter alone in the basement. I give Vanessa some food and water, wishing her and her family the best as I make my way back upstairs.)
