[there would be dialogue in this story:] (When I was still in high school, people would sometimes call me "blind as a bat" - seeing as I was prone to tripping over books almost all the time. But if they called my girlfriend - Emily - "blind as a bat", they'd be right - because she's...well, she's part bat. She relies on her sense of hearing to sense the world around her - as her ears were the same as those on all kinds of bats. One day, I was returning home with my friend Mike and his pregnant wife Lisa - who was part shadow darner dragonfly - to introduce them to Emily, as she decided to move in with me. She could even hear the heartbeat of Lisa's baby.)

Mike: So, your girlfriend is part bat, huh? That must be pretty cool. Me: Yeah, it definitely has its perks. She can hear things that I can't even imagine. Lisa: That's so fascinating. I wish I had heightened senses like that. Emily: It definitely comes in handy. And it's nice to finally meet you, Lisa. I can hear the baby's heartbeat already. Lisa: Oh, that's amazing. I'm glad you can sense that too. Mike: It's incredible how unique you all are. This little family of humans, bats, and dragonflies. Me: Yeah, it's definitely not your average household. But we make it work. Emily: And I wouldn't have it any other way. I feel like I can truly be myself here. Me: Well, we're glad to have you here. And I know our little baby is going to love having such a unique aunt. (The conversation continues as we all head inside, grateful for the unique and accepting family we have created.)
