But it's starting to look like I've got to forge my own destiny. [SCENE 2: Caleb encounters the player character, Gordon Freeman] Caleb/NPC (excitedly): Oh hey! You must be Gordon Freeman! I've heard so much about you! Gordon Freeman (uninterested): Yup. That's me. Gotta save the world. Caleb/NPC: Well, good luck with that! If you need any help or assistance, I'll always be around! Thought it's worth mentioning, though, I've never fired a gun before. Gordon Freeman [chuckles]: Noted. [SCENE 3: Combat scene where Gordon takes out a group of enemies] Caleb (voiceover): Honestly, I'm not sure how useful I'll be to him. Look at how he mows down the enemies like it's nothing! [Caleb/NPC watches from behind cover, looking amazed] Caleb/NPC (loud whisper): Gordon! Gordon, there was a health pack over there! Gordon Freeman (distracted): Yeah, sure, I got it. [SCENE 4: Caleb is with other NPCs behind closed doors] Caleb/NPC (enthusiastically): Did you see that? Gordon was incredible out there! Other NPC (unimpressed): Yeah, I guess. He never answers any of my questions though. How rude. Caleb/NPC: Well, he does have a lot on his plate. [SCENE 5: Caleb talks to other important NPCs like Alyx Vance and Dr. Kleiner] Caleb/NPC: So Alyx, tell me more about you and Gordon. Have you two been working together for long? Alyx Vance: It seems like we've known each other forever. We're fighting for the same cause, you know. And, well... Caleb/NPC (grinning): Oooou, there's something more, huh? Alyx Vance (smiling): I better get back to work. [SCENE 6: Caleb, attempting to upgrade his NPC abilities] Caleb/NPC (talking to himself): If I can just get better at this, maybe - MAYBE - I could be useful to Gordon! Dr. Kleiner (overhearing): You know, just being here and supporting our cause is more than enough. You're always welcome to learn, though. [SCENE 7: Climactic final battle, Gordon eliminates the main villain] Caleb/NPC (cheering): GO GORDON! YOU DID IT! YEAH! [SCENE 8: The aftermath - NPCs all celebrate] Caleb (voiceover): I almost can't believe it's over. I mean, sure, I've faced my own fair share of challenges as an NPC - dodging stray bullets, trying to be useful - but I'm grateful for everything I've learned in the process. Caleb/NPC (smiling): And who knows? Maybe I'll get to be in the sequel. But until then, I'll keep doing my best in this dystopian world.
