CUT TO: INT. NCAA OFFICE - DAY Inside the NCAA office, the atmosphere is slightly different. Several officials are gathered around the room, and they all look concerned. NCAA OFFICIAL 1: (voice trembling) We've lost North Carolina A&T State University to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). NCAA OFFICIAL 2: (surprised) What? How did that happen? NCAA OFFICIAL 3: (pensive) A&T wanted to pursue different opportunities. We tried to convince them, but they made their decision. CUT TO: EXT. MEAC HEADQUARTERS - DAY The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) headquarters are unusually quiet compared to NCAA headquarters a few blocks away. INT. MEAC OFFICE - DAY MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas is in his office, looking dejected. DENNIS THOMAS: (sighs) Losing North Carolina A&T is a major blow. We have to stay focused and work on ways to move forward. CUT TO: INT. NCAA OFFICE - DAY NCAA OFFICIAL 2: (exasperated) This is not the first time we've lost a good team to another conference. NCAA OFFICIAL 1: (nodding) We lost Howard University to the CAA a few years ago, and now, we've learned that they've declined an invitation to join the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). NCAA OFFICIAL 3: (somberly) We cannot afford to lose more quality teams. We need to think of innovative ways to improve our relationship with our member schools. CUT TO: EXT. COPPIN STATE UNIVERSITY - DAY Coppin State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) are located a few miles away from each other. Both schools are discussing their options regarding their respective conferences. INT. COPPIN STATE ATHLETIC OFFICE - DAY Coppin State Athletic Director Derek Carter is on the phone with the ASUN Conference Commissioner, Ted Gumbart. DEREK CARTER: (smiling) Yes, Ted, we are definitely interested in exploring the possibility of joining the ASUN Conference. CUT TO: INT.
