(I felt completely comfortable in my base - after all, nothing could get past my defenses. 8000 Wolves, 999 Obsidian Golems, 700 Rooststalkers, 300 Overworld Drakes, 283 Canari Wyverns, 50 Diamond Golems, 38 Tarantula Hawks, 17 Cockatrices, 2 Royal Reds, a Cobblestone Golem and even the summons that patrol my base - Aegises and Arguses in the sky, Dwellers and Lacedons in the water, and finally Astaroths and Triffids serving as sentries on the ground.) [player]: "With these defenses, I'm basically unstoppable!" (Just then, I heard screaming coming from the basement.) [player]: "The hell?" (I looked to see who it was - and it was a strange girl. Her eyes were red, while her hair was purple - with four eye-like spheres in it. Her sweater and skirt resembled the Cave Spider mob.) Female Cave Spider: (in pain) "AAAAAAAGH! Come on, little one! It's been 30 months and I'm still waiting for you!" (thinking to herself) "Okay, Vanessa...just do strong for the baby. Gog, this hurts so much...!" [player]: "Uh...hi there? Are you okay?" Vanessa: (startled by my presence) "Who are you? What are you doing here?!" [player]: "I live here. This is my base. And...are you giving birth down here?!" Vanessa: (nodding) "Yes...I've been waiting for months for this baby to arrive and I couldn't find anywhere else to go." [player]: "But...who's the father?" Vanessa: "...there IS no father." [player]: "Wait, what do you mean there's no father?" Vanessa: "It started back when I was undergoing the same parthenogenesis process at the same time with my older, regular Spider sister - Mindy. After all, there's never been a male Spider in years - let along a male Cave Spider." {VANESSA'S FLASHBACK}

(Vanessa remembers the time when she and her sister, Mindy, were undergoing the parthenogenesis process.) Vanessa: "Hey, sis...do you ever wish there was a male Spider around?" Mindy: "What for? We can reproduce just fine without them." Vanessa: "I know...but I just...I mean, it would be nice to have someone to talk to, you know?" Mindy: "I guess...but it's not like we have a choice in the matter." Vanessa: "Yeah, I know..." {END FLASHBACK} [player]: "So...you're telling me that you're giving birth to a baby without a father? How is that even possible?" Vanessa: "It's called parthenogenesis. It's a process where females can reproduce without the need for a male, by producing offspring from unfertilized eggs." [player]: "Oh...I see." Vanessa: (gasping in pain) "AAAAAAH! It's coming...I can feel it..." [player]: "Okay, okay...let me help you. Just hold my hand and breathe. You're not alone." (Vanessa grips my hand tightly as she continues to scream in agony. After a few moments, she finally gives birth to a small Spiderling.) Vanessa: (exhausted) "It's...it's a girl..." [player]: (smiling) "Congrats, Vanessa. You're a mom now." Vanessa: (tearfully) "Thank you...thank you so much..." [player]: "Do you have a name for her?" Vanessa: "Not yet...but...(looks at me) do you have any ideas?" [player]: (thinking) "Hmm...how about Arachne?" Vanessa: (smiling) "Arachne...it's perfect." [player]: "I'm glad you like it. And...I'll keep this a secret, if that's what you want." Vanessa: (nodding) "Thank you...thank you so much." [player]: "No problem. You and Arachne can stay here as long as you need to." (Vanessa and I take Arachne upstairs, where I help them get settled into a cozy corner of my base. As I leave them to rest, I can't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to help them. After all, even with my seemingly impenetrable defenses, there was always more to life than just fighting and defending.)
