INT. JANE'S BEDROOM - DAY Jane and Sam are sitting cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by colorful pillows and snacks. The room is adorned with band posters and a shelf filled with DVDs. JANE (Excitedly) You won't believe what I found while rummaging through my old stuff! My portable DVD player! SAM (smiling) No way! That's awesome. I didn't know you had one. JANE Yeah, I completely forgot about it. I used to watch movies on it all the time. But then I got a tablet, and it just sat in the back of my closet. Sam's eyes widen with intrigue. SAM Wait, you have a tablet? Lucky! I've always wanted one but my parents said I have to wait until my birthday. Jane's enthusiasm wanes a bit, feeling guilty. JANE Yeah, it's cool and all, but sometimes I miss the simplicity of a DVD player. No notifications, no distractions. Just the movie. Sam ponders for a moment and then hesitates. SAM Actually, my younger sister has a portable DVD player too. Even though she has a tablet as well. It's hers, not mine. Jane's eyebrows raise, curious. JANE Why would she need both? Isn't tablet enough? Sam leans back, pulling a strand of her hair behind her ear. SAM Well, you see, my sister Lily is autistic. She loves watching movies, especially the same ones over and over again. It helps her feel calm and secure. But some of her favorite movies are only available on DVD, not streaming. Jane's eyes widen, her face filled with understanding. JANE Oh, I get it now. So the portable DVD player allows her to watch her favorite movies wherever she wants, even in the car or when we travel. Sam nods, relieved that Jane understands. SAM Exactly! And sometimes, if Lily is feeling overwhelmed or anxious, watching her favorite movie on the DVD player soothes her. It's like a comfort item, you know? Jane smiles, grateful for the insight. JANE That's really sweet. I never looked at it that way before. It's amazing how certain things can bring comfort and familiarity to someone, even if it seems unnecessary to us. Sam smiles brightly, appreciating Jane's empathy. SAM Yeah. It's important to remember that everyone has their own unique needs and preferences. It's what makes us who we are. They both sit in a comfortable silence for a moment, appreciating the lesson they've just learned. FADE OUT.
