(Jane and Ruby are sitting on the edge of a swimming pool. Ruby looks nervous.) Jane: "Ruby, what's going on? Why do you look so nervous?" Ruby: "I have something to tell you, Jane. But I'm not sure how you'll react." Jane: "Just say it. You can tell me anything." Ruby: "Okay. Here it goes. I'm a mermaid." Jane: (Pauses) "What?" Ruby: "I know it sounds crazy. But it's true. I'm a mermaid." Jane: "Like with a tail and everything?" Ruby: "Yes. And there's more. I'm pregnant." Jane: "What?! How is that even possible?" Ruby: "I don't know. It's never happened before. But it's real. I can feel it." Jane: (Shocked) "I can't believe this. Are you okay? Do you need help?" Ruby: "I don't know what to do. I can't go to the hospital. They'll find out what I am." Jane: "We'll figure something out. Maybe we can find someone who knows about mermaids." Ruby: "Do you think they'll help me?" Jane: "I don't know. But we have to try. We're in this together, Ruby. You're my friend and I'll do anything to help you." Ruby: (smiling through her tears) "Thank you, Jane. I don't know what I would do without you."
