Scene: Jane and Ruby are sitting on the beach, watching the sunset. Jane notices something strange about Ruby's legs. Jane: "Ruby, why do your legs look like... like a fish tail?" Ruby: (looks down at her legs, then back up at Jane with realization dawning on her face) "Jane, I need to tell you something. I'm not exactly human." Jane: "What do you mean?" Ruby: "I'm a mermaid. My parents are merpeople." Jane: (shocked) "What?! How is that possible?" Ruby: "I was born that way, Jane. It's just who I am." Jane: (trying to wrap her head around the concept of mermaids) "Okay, but... wait, what about the baby?" Ruby: (anxious) "Yeah... that's part of my mermaid side too. I got pregnant from a human boy." Jane: (even more shocked) "Oh my God, Ruby. How is that even possible?!" Ruby: "Mermaids are able to mate with humans, but... it's not really supposed to happen. My parents didn't approve of it." Jane: "What are you going to do, Ruby? You're just a kid yourself, you can't raise a baby on your own." Ruby: (tearfully) "I know, Jane. I don't know what to do. I'm scared and confused." Jane: "We'll figure it out, Ruby. I'll be here for you, no matter what. We'll get through this together."
