Jane: "Wait, what? You're a mermaid?" Ruby: "Yup, born and bred." Jane: "But how...I mean when I met you last year, you were just a normal girl." Ruby: "My parents enrolled me in a school for humans. I had to learn how to live like a human." Jane: "And you never once mentioned that you were a mermaid?" Ruby: "I wasn't allowed to. Our kind is supposed to stay hidden." Jane: "Wow, this is crazy. So, does that mean you have a mermaid family and everything?" Ruby: "I have a whole underwater family and community. It's pretty amazing down there." Jane: "And what about this Tim guy you've been seeing? Is he human too?" Ruby: "Nope, he's a merman. He's from my community." Jane: "And you're pregnant with a mermaid baby?" Ruby: "Yeah, I am. It's pretty exciting and scary at the same time." Jane: "I can only imagine. So, what's going to happen now?" Ruby: "I don't know, really. I'm still trying to figure things out. But I do know that I want to keep this baby and raise him or her with Tim." Jane: "Well, I'm here for you, whatever you need. I can't believe I'm friends with a mermaid!" Ruby: "Thanks, Jane. I'm glad I can count on you."
