They travel to the nearest town where they meet Master Roshi, a wise old martial artist who has one of the Dragon Balls. Master Roshi agrees to give Bulma his Dragon Ball if she and Goku can defeat his rival Tien and his partner Chiaotzu in a martial arts tournament. The tournament is brutal but Goku and Bulma come out victorious. Master Roshi honours his promise and gives Bulma his Dragon Ball. White, with two of his goons, Captain Yellow and Colonel Violet by his side, taunts Goku and challenges him to a fight The fight between Goku and General White is brutal and intense, but Goku emerges victorious. He also discovers that the army possesses a Dragon Ball and he and Bulma plot their next move. Bulma creates a radar that detects the location of the next Dragon Ball. They follow the radar and end up in a desert. They meet a group of bandits who refuse to give up their Dragon Ball. After a tussle, the bandits give in. However, Pilaf manages to escape with the dragon ball. BULMA (disappointed) We were so close. SON GOKU (optimistically) Don't worry. We'll get it next time. BULMA (impressed) You're pretty strong for a kid. SON GOKU (smiling) Thanks, I've been trained by my grandfather. BULMA (puzzled) Wait, where is your grandfather? SON GOKU (sadly) He passed away a few years ago. Bulma looks sympathetic towards Goku. BULMA (apologetically) I'm sorry to hear that.
