LUCAS (smiling) We're all part of the same school, Max. Besides, that's what makes them interesting. MAX (scoffs but gives a weak smile) Fine but if they bore me, I am outta here. As Steve and Robin take the invitation, Nancy and Jonathan walk by, looking at the mismatched group with disdain. NANCY (muttering to Jonathan) Can't believe they're sitting together... losers unite, I guess. Ignoring them, the group at the table starts to laugh and exchange stories about their aspirations. She confidently walks over to the group with a warm smile. ELEVEN Hey, I'm Eleven. Just transferred here. Can any of you tell me where Room 212 is? WILL (angrily strumming on his worn-out guitar) This school is too crowded with fake people. Eleven grins, amused by Will's tough demeanor. ELEVEN Well, I am pretty new, so I guess I can't be "fake" just yet, right? DUSTIN (nervously) It's uhh... down the hall to the left. Welcome to Hawkins High, Eleven! Eleven walks away, leaving the boys staring after her. LUCAS (popular jock demeanor) I don't know why you guys are so excited. She's not even in our league. At that moment, MAX walks up and slips her arm around Lucas. MAX She's perfect, Lucas! We'll invite her to my parents' mansion this weekend. She can join our squad. INT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - CAFETERIA - MIDDAY Eleven sits with Nancy, Max, and Lucas, chatting about their plans for the weekend. Mike, Dustin, Will, Steve, and Robin look over from their table, each with their own reason for secretly admiring Eleven and her effortlessly confident demeanor. INT. As they listen in, they fail to notice that Dustin, Will, Steve, and Robin have also gathered nearby, intrigued and amused by the whole situation. WILL (sarcastically) Suddenly, everybody wants to be friends with Mike. DUSTIN (excited) Life is like a science experiment... everything changes when a new element is introduced! ROBIN (chuckling) I never took you for a romantic, Dustin. All characters continue to spy on Mike and Eleven as they share stories and laughs, not realizing that their own lives are shifting as relationships begin to change, intertwine, and flourish.
