Caroline is recovering in hospital. As she wheels back into her hospital room after undergoing some procedures (and Caroline insists on moving on her own instead of being pushed around), she sees that two more beds were added into her room, clearly meant for two young female students, Britt Lindqvist, who is already occupying one of the bed, and Colette Fleury, who is unpacking her things while sitting in her wheelchair. As Caroline awkwardly maneuvers around Colette's wheelchair in now more cramped room, she demands explanation of why her private room is now squatted. Britt and Colette exchange a laugh and say that they were forewarned about Caroline's attitude. Caroline presses a call button, and soon Dr. Jerry Jefferies appears, apparently having expected Caroline's indignation. The other roommate, Colette Fleury, was a petite brunette with a pixie cut, perched on her wheelchair, unpacking her things with what seemed like feigned nonchalance. "How very charming!" I exclaimed with uncharacteristic sarcasm as I tried to maneuver my wheelchair around Colette's, eyes narrowed at the presumptuous squatters. "Would someone mind kindly explaining why my private room now looks like a college dormitory?" Britt and Colette exchanged a knowing glance followed by a sardonic giggle. "Dr. Jerry warned us about your attitude," said Britt, her eyebrows raised in a manner that alluded to her being in on some private joke that I was most definitely not privy to. I was not amused. I wasted no time in furiously jabbing the call button like it owed me money. A few seconds later - though it felt like hours - Dr. Jerry sauntered into the room, that annoyingly cocky yet ruggedly handsome smirk plastered on his face, his white coat swaying like a cape. "Ah, my favorite patient! I've been expecting you," he announced as if he was the master of ceremonies in the world's most irritating circus. "What's the meaning of this?!" I demanded, gesturing wildly to the unwanted additions to my room. "You see, Caroline," Dr. Jerry replied, leaning against the doorframe, as cool and unaffected as a cucumber on ice. "We're experiencing an influx of patients, and we didn't have enough rooms for everyone. Britt and Colette exchange a laugh and say that they were forewarned about Caroline's attitude. Caroline presses a call button, and soon Dr. Jerry Jefferies appears, apparently having expected Caroline's indignation. He explains that the hospital is experiencing an influx of patients and that her room was never considered truly hers anyway. Jerry, somewhat mockingly, but also rather truthfully, tells Caroline that he personally picked some young charming ladies (he winks at Britt and Colette while saying this), with whom Caroline would be able to share a room without any trouble, as he could have picked some old women who would have constantly talked and complained, but he didn't and Caroline should appreciate that.

Colette and Britt exchanged glances, their laughter barely contained as they took in my indignation. "Oh, we heard about you," Britt teased, a playful glint in her eyes. "They warned us that you might feel... shall we say, territorial?" "Territorial?" I spluttered, my face heating up. "I just don't see why I should have to share my room with two strangers when I specifically requested a private room!" I furiously hit the call button, and after a moment, Dr. Jerry Jefferies appeared in the doorway, looking simultaneously amused and apologetic. "Ah, Miss Hertig. I see you've met your new roommates." "I most certainly have," I snapped, glaring daggers at him. "Now, do tell, why am I being subjected to this... this nonsense?" Dr. Jefferies sighed, rubbing his temples. "Caroline, the truth is, we're experiencing an influx of patients right now, and there simply aren't enough rooms to go around. Your room was never considered truly yours alone. It's a temporary arrangement." He then flashed a mischievous grin, adding, "Besides, I handpicked these two charming young ladies for this little experiment. You should be grateful I didn't stick you with a couple of cantankerous old women." I stared at him in disbelief as he proceeded to wink at Britt and Colette, who responded with coquettish giggles...
