The reaction of poison and antidote causes Alienor to become paralyzed from the neck down, hopefully not permanently. Alienor slowly regains some use of her left foot. To cheer her up and involve her in work, Marcel decides to take her into his apartment, becoming her de facto caregiver. He seems to enjoy such a position, putting Alienor into fashionable and extravagant clothes, even though he attends to her needs in a gentlemanly and respectful way. The invited doctor uses fanciful means. In preparation, he transplants a small amount of Lassiana's nerve tissue to a homunculus, making her wonder how ethical these proceedings are, exactly.
