Rei's voice chimes in, offering another perspective. REI (O.S.) (dispassionate) Shinji, it is also possible to create a new possibility from within yourself. GENDO Shinji, there's no more time. The Angels are close to reaching Central Dogma. You must make a choice, NOW. Shinji takes a deep breath. SHINJI I... There must be a way to find a balance between both choices! If the world is just one individuality or a collection of everyone, it's either fake or without meaning. I want to find a way to bring people closer together without losing ourselves completely in the process. As Shinji speaks, Unit-01 starts to react, glowing and emitting a powerful energy. RITSUKO (via intercom) It seems Unit-01 is responding to Shinji's desires. It might be attempting to find a new path! ASUKA Well, at least you're finally being proactive for once. Rei smiles gently at Shinji as the three of them watch Unit-01's transformation. The power in the room continues to build. REI Whatever happens next, Shinji, we'll face it together. As Unit-01 continues to change in response to Shinji's decision, the scene fades to black.
