It is a world of great beauty and splendor, home to a variety of creatures, including dragons, birds, and even sentient plants. But it is also a world of great danger, as it is constantly under threat from a powerful empire known as the Arktivus Brevon. In order to protect themselves from Brevon's forces, the inhabitants of Avalice have turned to a new source of power: a mysterious crystal called the Element of Chaos. This crystal is said to grant incredible powers to those who possess it, and it is fiercely guarded by the leaders of Avalice's three major cities: Shang Tu, Shang Mu, and Shang Tsung. Meanwhile, on a distant planet known as Mobius, Sonic the Hedgehog is enjoying a peaceful day in Green Hill Zone when he suddenly senses a disturbance in the fabric of space-time. He quickly races to investigate, and discovers that a strange portal has opened up in the sky. As he watches, a group of ships emerges from the portal, bearing the insignia of the Terran Dominion, one of the most powerful factions in the galaxy. Sonic knows that this can only mean trouble, and he sets off to investigate further. Upon arriving at the scene, Sonic encounters a group of strange creatures known as the Protoss. They too have been drawn to this world by the power of the Element of Chaos, and they are seeking to harness its power for their own purposes. Finally, a group of Zerg arrive on the scene, intent on seizing the Element of Chaos for themselves. Sonic realizes that he must team up with his old friends Lilac and Jim, as well as the various inhabitants of Avalice, in order to protect the planet and prevent it from falling into the hands of these dangerous factions. Together, they must embark on an epic quest that takes them to the far corners of the galaxy, battling against the forces of the Terran Dominion, the Protoss, and the Zerg, as they seek to uncover the secrets of the Element of Chaos and protect it from those who would abuse its power.
