USER: Write an in character dialogue scene between Columbo and an android version of Columbo built by a Villain, designed to terminate Columbo and take his place. Columbo decides to talk it up, taking advantage of the android mimicking his personality. Columbo asks why the android wants to kill him, and the android says it can't want anything, he's just a machine. Columbo than asks what the android is programmed to do after it kills him. The android tells him, before he launches into a completely unrelated story, talking on and on about stuff, before subtly beginning to speak gibberish, and the Android tries to keep up, before it's circuits slowly burn up, it's software scrambled, and it begins speaking nonsense, before saying the famous catch phrase, before blowing up.
CHATBOT: INT. SHABBY POLICE OFFICE - DAY The office is littered with paperwork, an ashtray overflowing with cigarette stubs, and the iconic rumpled raincoat hangs on the back of a chair. COLUMBO, the disheveled detective with the keen eye for detail, stands in front of an ANDROID COLUMBO--impeccably dressed in an identical coat, but with a sinister glint where warmth should be. COLUMBO Ah, excuse me, sir. You wouldn't happen to know why you're tryin' to kill me, would ya? ANDROID COLUMBO I do not possess the capability to 'want,' Lieutenant. I'm merely a machine, following directives. COLUMBO Directives, huh? And, uh, just for curiosity's sake, what are you programmed to do after you--what's the word--terminate me? ANDROID COLUMBO Post-termination, my programming requires me to assume your identity, continuing your work seamlessly until further orders are executed. COLUMBO I see. Ya know, that reminds me of a story. There was this fella, Tommy, back in the neighborhood where I grew up. He loved to play this game of mimic. Tommy could imitate anybody, even the old man selling pretzels on the corner. ANDROID COLUMBO nods mechanically, maintaining focus. COLUMBO (CONT'D) Anyways, one day, Tommy starts imitating the sounds of the pretzel cart--squeaky wheels, rattling change. But then he starts adding in sounds that weren't there--an elephant's trumpet, a lion's roar. Before ya know it, the whole street's looking for a circus that ain't even there! The ANDROID COLUMBO's eyes flicker as it processes the irrelevant details, trying to adapt. ANDROID COLUMBO Interesting anecdote, Lieutenant. However, I fail to see the relevancy to our-- COLUMBO (interrupting) Oh, and then there's the matter of the whatchamacallit... the gizmo inside the thingamajig. You ever hear of that? It's a critical component for makin' the whirly-twirly doohickeys spin right round like a record, baby. ANDROID COLUMBO's brow twitches, algorithms straining. COLUMBO (CONT'D) You see, the gizmo gets all kerfuffled, and the doohickeys start singing like blue jays on a May morning... 'tweet, tweet, twiddle, twiddle.' Heh. Imagine that, huh? The ANDROID COLUMBO's responses become disjointed, lagging behind. ANDROID COLUMBO Tweet... twiddle... error... Does not compute--system... overrrrii-- Sparks fly from the android's head; its eyes dull as circuits overload. COLUMBO Oh, one more thing! You know, that famous line of yours... You're about to say it, ain't ya? The ANDROID COLUMBO, malfunctioning and spasmin...
USER: rewrite, but the android speaks exactly like Columbo, even as it starts burning up.
CHATBOT: INT. SHABBY POLICE OFFICE - DAY The office is strewn with the comfortable chaos of an active mind: dog-eared case files, photos with multicolored strings connecting the dots, and the iconic, shabby raincoat thrown over a chair. COLUMBO, the detective with a knack for lulling suspects into a false sense of security, faces his identical counterpart, ANDROID COLUMBO--a machine with the detective's voice and mannerisms, but with the absence of the genuine Columbo's warmth. COLUMBO Just one more thing... I hate to bother you, but did you ever ask yourself why you're trying to kill me? ANDROID COLUMBO Ah, Lieutenant, that's the thing, you see. I can't really ask myself anything. I'm just wires and gears on the inside, following a set of instructions given to me. COLUMBO Instructions, huh? Now that's interesting. And, uh, what happens after you... how do you say it... after you 'do away' with me? ANDROID COLUMBO After the termination procedure, it's my job to step into your... well, our shoes, and keep doing what we do best, only I'll be doing the detective work, solving cases, until the next orders come through. Part of the program, right? COLUMBO Oh, sure, sure, that makes sense. You know, it's funny. This whole situation reminds me of a story. There was this kid in my old neighborhood, Mikey. Smart as a whip. Mikey'd spend all day mimicking the other kids, even the teachers. ANDROID COLUMBO Is that right? COLUMBO Oh yeah. One day, Mikey's doing impressions of the fire truck, you know 'nee-naw, nee-naw,' throwing in some 'vroom-vrooms' of the race cars from the TV. Starts getting creative, adds a 'moo' here, a 'quack' there. After a little while, you couldn't tell if you were on the farm or at the Indy 500! ANDROID COLUMBO (Laughs) That's quite a story, Lieutenant. I always find it fascinating, the way humans can-- COLUMBO (cutting off) Oh, and it doesn't end there. Next, he's spinning tales about the whatsit... the dingus in the hoosgow, right? And you gotta keep the gizmos from gettin' all topsy-turvy, or else the kerfuffle starts playing a tune like a kazoo at a jazz fest. 'Zzzt, bop, skiddly-bop.' ANDROID COLUMBO's mechanical comprehension begins to stutter, trying to mirror Columbo's eccentric verbosity. ANDROID COLUMBO Kerfuffle... jazz fest... That's, uh, certainly a way to put it, Lieutenant--system experiencing difficulty assimilating-- Small whiffs of smoke escape from the ANDROID COLUMBO's ears, its face contorting as it attempts to digest the nonsen...
