Among these were the Lord of Shadows, an evil being who coveted the Protoss' secrets and power. He and his minions plotted and schemed, seeking to find a way to conquer the Protoss and bend them to their will. Artanis and his followers knew of this threat, and so they prepared themselves for the inevitable conflict. They trained and honed their skills, readying themselves for the coming battle. The Protoss were steadfast and determined, and their resolve was unbreakable. The Lord of Shadows, however, was cunning and devious. He had spies within the ranks of the Protoss and knew of their plans. He struck first, catching the Protoss off guard with a devastating surprise attack.
