As one of the appointed rivals of the nefarious Rugal Bernstein, Kim had assembled a team to end the villain's reign at the King of Fighters. He was joined by his trusted friends Gang Il and the ever-enigmatic Luong, the latter having her sights set on the glory of the tournament as much as Kim did. As the tournament proceeded, the trio's fame and prowess quickly became the subject of both whispers and roars throughout the bustling crowds of South Town. Kim's commitment to justice delivered furious, unwavering kicks that sent his opponents flying like tumbleweed, asserting his dominance in the arena. Gang Il, a Tae Kwon Do legend, displayed absolute finesse with his arsenal of powerful strikes and jaw-dropping acrobatics. Last, but not least, Luong, an elegant yet deadly force, conquered her challengers using her strong yet incredibly flexible legs with devastating effect. The day came to face Team Fatal Fury in one of the final battles of the King of Fighters tournament. Kim faced the indomitable Terry Bogard while Gang Il prepared to fight Andy Bogard. Fate left Luong matched against the brute power of Joe Higashi. Letting out a ferocious battle cry, Terry threw his iconic Power Wave directly at Kim from the get-go. Kim, however, gracefully leaped over the wave, landing a swift axe kick on Terry's chest. The two continued to clash fiercely, Tae Kwon Do against the martial arts Maestro. In the adjacent arena, Andy Bogard and Gang Il exchanged blow after blow, each driven by their own ideals and honor.
