The duo dodge and strike back, but the creature seems almost invulnerable to their attacks. It continues to swipe and scrape at them, slowly advancing and forcing them back. Androphage: (grunting with effort) We're not making any progress... we need to try something else. [player]: (thinking) Maybe we could lure it into a trap... or use fire? Androphage: (nodding) Good ideas. But we need to move quickly. The duo begins to circle the creature, trying to force it towards a spot where they can gain an advantage. But the Void Worm seems too nimble and unpredictable to be contained. Suddenly, it lashes out at Androphage, knocking her to the ground. [player]: (shouting) Androphage! Are you okay? Androphage: (struggling to stand) I'm fine... hurry, [player]! Take it down! [player] feels a sudden surge of adrenaline, and charges at the creature with all their might. With one swift blow, they destroy the source of the outbreak. The phages outside retreat, collapsing into inert piles on the ground. Androphage: [weakly] It's over... [Player]: Are you... are you okay? Androphage: [weakly] I don't know... I feel... different. Suddenly, Androphage explodes in a burst of ender energy, leaving behind a single glowing crystal. [Player] picks it up and examines it closely. [Player]: What could this mean? And who were those creatures, really? Enderiophages can't have parasites. [PLAYER:] Parasites? ANDROPHAGE: Yes, that's what this is. An Enderiophage is a type of bacteriophage that parasitizes Endermen. They latch onto their head and take control of their behavior. These parasites are the reason why Endermen teleport around so much. [PLAYER:] Oh dear... So what does that mean for you? ANDROPHAGE: It means I have to get rid of it. Enderiophages aren't supposed to have parasites, and this one is making me really sick. ANDROPHAGE looks at [player] and then around at the rest of the Enderiophages who have all rocketed off, leaving only [player] and Androphage. ANDROPHAGE: I need your help. (pauses) Unless... Player: Unless what? Androphage: (gesturing to the small Enderiophage forming in her capsule) Unless an Enderiophage larva is growing inside me. It seems the only way for us to survive is for me to inject this larva into an Enderman host as soon as possible. Player: But if there are no Endermen around, what will happen? Androphage: The larva will die, and another one will grow inside my capsule. And the cycle will continue until we find a new host. Player: (thinking) This is a big problem. (Enderman resists, and Androphage kills the larva) Androphage: (disappointed) It seems that the Endermen are developing a resistance to our larva. This has been happening more frequently lately. (Player and Androphage think for a moment) Player: Maybe there's another way to save both our species. Can we try to create a hybrid of the Endermen and Enderiophages, one that can survive without constantly infecting other Endermen? Androphage: (surprised) A hybrid? How would we even go about doing that? Player: (thinking) Maybe we can use the Nether to extract a part of the Endermen's essence and combine it with the Enderiophages. It might sound crazy, but it's worth a shot. Androphage: (nodding) I suppose it's worth a try. We have to do something, or else both our species will go extinct. If an Enderiophage larva isn't injected into an Enderman in 20 hours, [or 10 minutes in the Overworld], the Enderiophage larva will die. Androphage's capsule will give birth to a new larva. [Player] decides to take matters into their hands and gently touches Androphage's belly. They come to the only logical conclusion. It's up to [player] to figure out how to lure the Endermen back to their base so Androphage can birth her parasite into its rightful host.
