Yaqdea was struggling on all fronts, and the fact that her overachieving older brother had just won a scholarship to study robotics at MIT exacerbated her feelings of inadequacy. That was why Tuesday, October 12th meant so much to her. It was the day of the school's fall dance, and she was beyond thrilled to be attending. Yaqdea's mom, Loretta, had even surprised her with a beautiful, sparkly dress that she had saved up for even though money had been tight since the divorce. The excitement bubbled inside her all day, making her forget her troubles for a while.
