Sleep, rather like necessity, can be a mother of invention--or, as in my case, delightfully strange and surreal dreams. Dreams that lured me in with their promise of unfettered freedom, and then proceeded to shatter my illusions with their nightmarish undertones. Initially, the dreams that followed were pleasant and engrossing. My enthralling adventures featured me in various roles, each more extraordinary than the last. I was a secret agent, resplendent in my tailored suit, seducing my way out of dangerous situations in exotic locales. Then, I morphed into a medieval lady, whimsically navigating the perilous intrigues of war and passion within the stone walls of a majestic castle. Upon touchdown on a distant planet as a fearless spaceship captain, I negotiated peace between warring alien species while standing tall in my silver-streaked uniform. But, dreams being the fluid creatures that they are, I soon transcended time and space once again to become a powerful and revered ancient queen, commanding the respect of her loyal subjects with the bat of my carefully-lined eyes. It was while I was entwined in the arms of a dashing mobster in a smoky speakeasy that I began to sense a mild unease. I felt as if another presence were subtly strangling my dreams, directing my thoughts in a dark and sinister direction. No sooner had I reached that realization than the dreams shifted gears entirely. The Beige Beast explains to Celestine, in an affable and polite manner, fully suited for a sophisticated thriller villain, that it was him (and he considers himself male), who paralyzed Celestine. Celestine is completely astounded. When she says her hypotheses about 30 years old. Caroline Hertig is a haughty and confident corporate manager, Karen Radek is self-righteous military office and Jennifer Delling is sarcastic independent journalist.
