His leering presence haunted my dreams almost as much as the memories of that car crash - and who might have caused it. It was all too much to bear alone. I needed an audience, a diversion - anything but the cold memory of wheeling and dealing, of sweet nothings whispered to powerful men and the delicious whispers of backstabbing. "Tell me you have something for me today, Marcel," I pleaded, turning my gaze to the scrawny-faced journalist who had saved me from the wreckage. He adjusted his thick glasses, their lenses reflecting my own tired eyes back at me. The corners of his mouth twitched upwards, an impish smile that both intrigued and infuriated me. "Now, Beatrix," he drawled, fluttering a batch of scandalous papers, "would I ever deprive you the juicy details about our old friends?"
