TANYA Just let her try, David. It could be a bit of a laugh, yeah? DAVID (irritatedly) Fine. But when this doesn't work, Linda, I expect an apology for wasting my time. LINDA (confidently) Agreed. But when you're under, you'll be the one apologizing. David rolls his eyes, but seats himself more comfortably. Linda sits opposite him, her face serene, her voice gaining an unexpected gravitas. LINDA (softly) David, focus on my voice. Take a deep breath... DAVID (interrupting) Seriously, Linda? A deep breath? You're a walking cliche. The guests laugh, but Linda remains unphased. LINDA (calmly) Humor me. Take a deep breath and focus on this pendant. Linda produces a small, shiny PENDANT. The laughter around the room fades as all eyes fixate on the unexpected prop. David, still smirking, plays along, glaring at the pendant. LINDA (steadily) Watch it sway, David. Back and forth. That's it. Your eyelids are growing heavy. David's smug expression gradually softens. His blinks become longer, his gaze unfocused. LINDA (gently) Good, David. You're doing so well. With every number I count, feel yourself slipping deeper. She counts slowly from one to five, and David's posture slumps, his eyes half-closed, resistant but undeniably affected. LINDA Now, on the count of three, you'll awaken, but only a fraction of your consciousness will return. One... two... three. DAVID'S EYES open abruptly. His confident demeanor is back, albeit slightly shaken. DAVID (obnoxiously) See? What did I tell you? This is nonse-- But before he can finish his sentence, Linda snaps her fingers. LINDA (slyly) Sleep. David collapses back into the couch, his body surrendering, eyelids flut...

From ten down to one, you'll feel peace... and an unexpected comfort. David's breathing changes. His eyelids start to flutter. LINDA Ten... Notice the weight of your body in that chair... Nine... every muscle beginning to relax... Eight... David's eyes grow heavier; his skepticism now warring with a creeping relaxation. LINDA (continuing, more authoritative) Seven... feel the noise around us just fading away... Six... David's chest rises and falls more heavily; his eyes are half-lidded. LINDA Let go... Five... your thoughts slowing down... Four... The guests, including Tanya and Vicki, start to whisper in amazement. They have never seen this side of Linda. LINDA Three... almost there, just my voice guiding you... Two... David's body slumps a little more, his resistance weakening visibly. LINDA And one... deeply, deeply relaxed. CUT TO: EXTREME CLOSE UP on David's face as his eyes finally close, his features smooth over, and he falls silent, completely under. LINDA (very pleased with herself) See how easy it is to slip away? Murmurs and giggles start to emit from the spectators. CUT TO: Linda raises her hand, snapping her fingers sharp...

There is a moment of anticipation in the room. People lean in. LINDA Now, you can open your eyes, but you'll remain deep in trance. David's eyelids flutter open, revealing a glazed, distant look. LINDA (CONT'D) You're just going to sit on the floor like a good boy... David's body complies with the elegance of a puppet led by a master puppeteer, easing out of the chair to the floor without hesitation. There's an audible reaction from the onlookers, a blend of nervous chuckles and gasps. ASIDE - TANYA glances over at VICKI with eyebrows raised, clearly impressed and more than a little shocked. LINDA (CONT'D) ...and you're going to take off my shoes for me. David reaches out towards Linda's feet almost automatically. His hands hover momentarily before dutifully grasping her shoes and sliding them off. DAVID (in a subdued, echoing voice) Yes, Linda. The room breaks into a mixture of laughter and applause, the absurdity of the situation reaching a pinnacle of social taboo for David while he remains oblivious to his actions. LINDA (satisfied) That's it. Such a good boy, attentive even in trance. CLOSE-UP - Linda's face is filled with a mischievous glee as she watches David comply with her instructions, her power over him at this moment almost palpable. CUT TO: The guests, lively, talk among themselves with animated expressions, taking out phones to capture the moment. Snippets of "Can't believe it" and "David's going to die when he sees this" fill the room. LINDA (O.S.) Remember, you will not remember any of this when you come out of trance, you'll only feel refreshed as if waking from a pleasant nap.
