Robin looks away for a moment, then turns back to Steve. ROBIN: (deep breath) What I mean is...I like you too, Steve. But I'm not into the idea of throwing myself into relationships quickly. NANCY enters the basement, her face pale and her body shivering. NANCY Guys, I don't feel so good... She collapses onto the floor. Everyone panics and gathers around her. Will's face turns to one of dread. WILL (speaking softly) It's the Mind Flayer... The room turns ice-cold. Windows freeze up, making it impossible to see outside. Everyone's breath is visible. ELEVEN We have to help her! Eleven kneels beside Nancy, placing a hand on her forehead, trying to use her powers to remove the Mind Flayer from Nancy's body. The other kids huddle together, watching anxiously. ELEVEN (CONT'D) (groaning) I can't... it's too strong. Suddenly, Nancy's body starts convulsing violently. Eleven and Mike desperately try to hold her down. A dark, thick black smoke starts to seep from her mouth and eyes. DUSTIN We need to get it out of her! LUCAS How? Eleven can't do it! Everyone looks at Will, who still has a trace of the Mind Flayer in him. WILL I can try to connect with it, distract it maybe. STEVE We need something to trap it in! DUSTIN The Faraday cage! Like we did with the Demodog in season two! As Nancy's convulsions increase, Will grabs her hand and concentrates deeply, trying to use his connection to the Mind Flayer to communicate with it. WILL (aggressive) Leave her alone! It's me you want! The dark smoke starts to slow down. The temperature slowly creeps back up to normal. They rush to set up a simple Faraday cage using silver kitchen utensils and wires. Hopper and Joyce hurry inside to help. ELEVEN (exhausted) It's now or never! Steve and Hopper help drag Nancy, still convulsing occasionally, inside the makeshift Faraday cage. As they move her into the cage, the black smoke continues to spill from her mouth, now attracted to the cage. Joyce throws a switch, electrifying the cage. The black smoke is trapped inside, sparking and writhing, unable to escape. Nancy gasps for air as the possession ends. She's weak, but alive. Eleven catches her and helps her sit down, hugging her tightly. MIKE (reassuring) It's over. You're safe now, Nancy. Everyone watches intently as Hopper carefully opens the Faraday cage and captures the black smoke inside a glass container, sealing it with duct tape. MAX What do we do with it now? L...

CHATBOT: INT. HAWKINS MIDDLE SCHOOL - NIGHT The gang - ELEVEN, MIKE, DUSTIN, LUCAS, WILL, and MAX - huddle together in the AV room, faces grim. Tension fills the air. ELEVEN It's getting stronger. We have to stop it. MIKE But how, El? We can't just keep closing the gate. DUSTIN Maybe the Mind Flayer hasn't shown us its true form yet... The group exchanges worried glances. LUCAS So, what do we do? WILL (shuddering) We have to weaken it. MAX, deep in thought, slowly raises her head up. She looks at the others and takes a deep breath. MAX I have an idea... But you guys are not going to like it. MIKE What is it, Max? MAX I willingly let the Mind Flayer possess me, then maybe we can use that connection to hurt it. ELEVEN (shaking her head) No, Max, it's too dangerous. We don't know what would happen to you. LUCAS Yeah, Max. We can't lose you too. Max looks at all her friends, determination in her eyes. MAX Listen, we don't have much time. If I can at least weaken it a bit, we stand a better chance at stopping it. You guys just need to be ready to help me when it's in control. Eleven looks at her, tears in her eyes. ELEVEN Promise me, we won't lose you. MAX (softly) I promise, El. The group stand in a circle, linking hands as Eleven focuses her powers. MAX (bracing herself) I'm ready, El. Let's do this. Eleven closes her eyes and concentrates, extending her power to reach the Mind Flayer. The room trembles. CHATBOT: INT. HAWKINS MIDDLE SCHOOL GYM - NIGHT The school gym is decked out for the annual Halloween dance. Kids dressed in '80s costumes dance awkwardly to cheesy hits while chaperones look on. Max, dressed as Madonna, talks with Lucas, dressed as Ghostbuster, near the punch bowl. MAX (stirring punch) So, your Ghostbuster costume, huh? Kinda cool. LUCAS (smiling) Yours is amazing too. But I wish Eleven were here. We're incomplete without her. Max sighs in agreement when suddenly the lights flicker ominously. MAX What the... LUCAS (alarmed) Did you feel that? The air grows colder, and the light flickers again. Max shivers, feeling a strange force inside her. LUCAS (CONT'D) Max, are you okay? Max grabs her head in pain, disoriented. MAX I don't know... Max, still under the control of The Mind Flayer, looks at Will with a twisted smirk. MAX I welcomed it, Will. I've always wanted to feel powerful, to be feared. The Mind Flayer sensed my desires and gave me that power. The group looks on in shock, unable to believe what they're hearing. DUSTIN You're lying, Max! We don't believe you. MAX (evil grin) Believe what you want, but it's true. I willingly became part of the hive mind. You see, all these years, I envied you and your friends, the adventures you've had... and now it's my turn to be in control. Lucas, on the verge of tears, gazes into Max's blackened eyes. LUCAS Max, this isn't you. We care about you. You're not alone. Please fight this. Max's eyes flicker, and for a moment, her true inner self is visible.
