CUT TO: A few minutes later, Joel comes back to the counter with Erika's drink. Erika takes a sip and smacks her lips together in appreciation. ERIKA (moaning) Mmm, this is so good. You make the best coffee, Joel. JOEL (smiling) Glad you're enjoying it. You look like you needed something to cool off. ERIKA (nodding) Definitely. This is hitting the spot. Joel leans on the counter, watching Erika with a gleam in his eye. JOEL You know, Erika, I've been reading up on hypnosis lately. Did you know that just by staring at someone's eyes for a few minutes, you can put them in a trance? Erika raises an eyebrow, intrigued. ERIKA (skeptical) Really? That sounds kind of far-fetched. Joel grins mischievously. JOEL Why don't we put it to the test? See if I can hypnotize you with just my eyes? Erika rolls her eyes but plays along, setting her drink down on the counter. ERIKA (mockingly) Ok, Joel. I'm all yours. Joel leans in closer, locking his gaze onto Erika's. Erika stares back, feeling her eyelids grow heavy. CUT TO: A few minutes later, Erika is in a trance-like state, staring blankly ahead. JOEL (smirking) See? I told you it was possible. Erika blinks, shaking her head to clear the fog. ERIKA (recovering) Wow. That was...actually kind of relaxing. Joel smiles, handing Erika her drink with a knowing glance. JOEL (smiling) I knew you'd like it.
