Tim spent hours trying to brush up on his Japanese with phrases such as "Please help me find a way home," or "No, I don't know any ninjutsu," but Kagura's enthusiasm for friendship (and possibly more) was relentless. "Tim-chan, you eat sukonbu?" she'd ask, offering him some of her favorite snack, while Tim would try to politely decline, hoping his stomach could survive without adding seaweed to the mix. As for Gintoki and Shinpachi, they half-believed Tim's tale but weren't about to let him go that easily. After all, a real-life superhero in Edo-period Tokyo was more interesting than the weekly Jump issue. "You fight aliens?" Gintoki would inquire, with a munch of his strawberry milk popsicle. "So what? We do that before breakfast." And so, one peculiar day, Tim sat crossed-legged on the tatami floor, draped in an oddly fitting kimono, trying to figure out an escape plan. Gintoki, ever the helpful host, attempted to pronounce "Red Robin," but it sounded more like "Leddobin" in his heavily-accented Japanese. Tim let out a sigh, realizing that getting home might take a bit longer than he expected. Meanwhile, Shinpachi was fascinated by Tim's tales of vigilantism. "You mean, you don't get paid? A leap, a flash, and the next thing he knew, he had landed in a place where spaceships mingled with feudal architecture and where a silver-haired samurai walked a giant dog on the streets. Gintoki, the alleged leader of this motley crew called Yorozuya - or was it YoroZOOya? - was a man of many masks. Was he lazy? A genius? Or just profoundly disinterested in anything that didn't involve sugar? Tim couldn't quite tell. He had been trying to pronounce 'Red Robin' for the last ten minutes, but it always ended up sounding like an exotic sushi roll. Kagura, the so-called 'China-girl', was an enigma wrapped in a traditional Chinese dress and a monstrous appetite. She had taken a liking to Tim's domino mask and kept calling him 'cutie bird-boy', offering him suspiciously spicy snacks that could make a gorilla wince. But with martial arts his temporary fee, Red Robin's tale was one heck of a jamboree. They'd figure it out, or so they'd hope, because without Red Robin, Gotham would mope. But till that day, he'd flip and he'd spin, a part of the gang, and their crazy whirlwind. For where else could a superhero roam, where sugar-addicts and alien girls felt like home? And so Red Robin learned, though his stay was impromptu, the Yorozuya were friends, through and through. Oh, the comics never told him how to handle hijinks like these, but sometimes, the best stories are where you'd least expect them to be.
